The Manager’s Dilemma – How to Empower Your Team’s Problem-Solving by Irial O’Farrell

Managers typically tend to excel at problem-solving so end up with a lot of problems on their desk, waiting to be sorted out, while their team often pass over issues that they should be able to resolve themselves. Unwittingly, a dynamic arises with the manager becoming overloaded.

Based on the author’s own experiences, both as a manager, leadership facilitator and executive coach, this book:
– articulates the dilemma that many managers face
– explores acceptable reasons for issue escalation
– explains how to design an effective problem-solving objective, based on your team members likely starting point
– reflects on common manager mindsets that result in disempowered teams
– provides insights into how best to introduce the new approach

How does less work landing on your desk and an empowered team sound to you? You’ll be freed up, allowing you to focus on more exciting and value-add projects; your team will be better able to deliver their work while also being able to take on additional projects. All of you will benefit from greater exposure and enhanced career opportunities.

Author Bio:
Irial O’Farrell is endlessly curious about performance and what drives it in the business world. Initially working in the financial services industry, she quickly moved into management and then spent six years, running a highly effective Learning and Development team. While training is great for knowledge and skills, her curiosity about what stops people putting ideas into action led her to explore, and qualify, as an Executive Coach.

She set up her own consulting business, Evolution Consulting, in 2006. Since then, she has qualified in Emotional Intelligence, Insights Discovery, and Organisational Design. In 2020, she became the Change Management Institute’s first, and currently only, Accredited Master in Change Management in Ireland.

She published her first book, Values – Not Just for the Office Wall Plaque: How Personal and Company Values Intersect, in 2012. Her second book, SMART Objective Setting for Managers, was published in 2020. Her third book, The Manager’s Dilemma – How to Empower Your Team’s Problem-Solving is the second book in her Performance Development book series.

Along with writing books and figuring out what makes people tick, she loves quizzes, reading, travelling and enjoys running (well, kinda!)
