Benjamin Bauman, a contemporary orthopedic surgeon, is propelled back in time to 1938 Nazi Germany. His time displacement lands him behind the wheel of a car on the streets of Berlin where Nazi flags fly with ubiquity. In full panic, Ben loses control of the automobile and crashes into a light pole where he is rendered unconscious. Regaining his senses a short time later in a Berlin hospital, Ben fears for his life. For Ben is a Jew.
His antisemitic fears soon vanish when everyone in the hospital recognizes Ben as Karl Schroder, chief surgeon of that very hospital, and the personal doctor for Hermann Goering. One fear quenched results in a host of other fears and adventures to follow.
After concluding he must perform an unrevealed mission in order to return home, Ben creates a time traveler’s checklist of possible ‘missions’ to accomplish.
