It is February 1987. Seal Larsen is a photographer, denizen of New York’s downtown scene and the subject of one of Andy Warhol’s short films. When she dies in a suspicious fall from the 15th floor of her Manhattan apartment building, her friend and neighbor, Emma Quinn, is determined to find out what happened. A history professor at Columbia University with connections to the intelligence community, Emma soon realizes how little she really knows about her friend. Exploring Seal’s life, her work, her past, Emma makes her way down to Memphis and to rural Tennessee, putting herself at risk. It’s there, on an isolated 2,000-acre farm, that she begins to grasp the tragedy that defined Seal’s life and the truth about her death. “An intriguing whodunnit with memorable characters.” — KIRKUS REVIEWS

Author Bio:
Author Susan Bacon is a graduate of Barnard College. She has lived in New York City, Washington DC, and Delaware, and now lives in Memphis, Tennessee — all of which serve as settings for her novels. Her debut novel, THE HISTORY TEACHER, is a political mystery set in Manhattan and Delaware during the Cold War era and the 1970s. Her latest novel, THE ART COLLECTOR, is set in New York, Memphis and Washington DC. Susan love puzzles of all kinds—jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, Wordle. “To me, plotting a mystery is like solving a puzzle,” she says. “But it’s also like creating a puzzle for the reader, one that they must solve. That’s the fun of it. I love hearing from my readers and attending book clubs, because that’s where I find out whether the puzzle was engaging and what they knew—and when.” She’s just finished a novel that’s more in the realm of women’s fiction. And is working on her third mystery featuring Emma Quinn as the central character. “I’m planning a trilogy,” says Bacon.
