Author Bio:
I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to James Jr. and Jeannine Smith. Growing up, my family moved from project housing developments to project housing developments. In 1992, my second-grade teacher challenged me to write about my holiday vacation. I could barely read; I didn’t have the confidence to write. Ms. Burke handed me a gift that would get me through the toughest parts of my childhood.
I graduated with a GED from Cincinnati Public School and attended Cincinnati State Technical Community College. I attempted to study business but soon discovered that, although I excelled in the classes, I had no real interest in making it a lifelong career. Instead, I focused on liberal arts classes such as history and literature. Using what I learned, I began to outline the plot of my first novel, Saving Lucy.
Since writing my debut book, I have learned a lot about myself. I’ve grown as a writer as well as a person. I am a progressive thinker as well as a progressive voter.
I’m just like any other human being out here with a dream—making my dreams a reality.
I am currently working on my next novel.
