Author Bio:
D.K. Ackerman is the mother of FOUR girls and TWO boys, so she knows a lot about girl power! Her days mostly consist of trying to keep her house together while accommodating all kinds of visitors, from royalty to bandits running from the law. Sometimes the little travelers stay a while with her, and at other times they are far too busy for chit chat. One thing is certain: the travelers are always hungry for a snack. A couple years ago she decided to pursue one of her greatest passions outside of being a permanent snack giver and mediator of strong disagreements, and write about the adventures of said travelers she’s had years of experience with.
D.K. believes strongly that children should have the opportunity to pursue all kinds of interests, no matter the gender stereotypes attached to them. Her girls love dinosaurs and astronauts, but embrace those things in tiaras and tutus. Her little boy IS Spiderman, but frequently finds himself riding unicorns when his webs are out. The baby of the family still has not found his voice to contribute to the shenanigans, but is always anxious to join the journey.
Most of all D.K. is out to encourage everyone, not just her own children, that imaginations are not meant to have limits! Creativity is the food of good ideas, and for children there is no substitute like imaginary play.
