Of Passion and Restraint Poems of Love, Lust and Loss by Carrie Skinner
Life is a passion play that when kept restrained can lead to frustration of the heart. But when allowed to run free can cause the heart to wander into many unexpected territories where love and lust and loss cover the landscape like a primal forest. One can get lost in its shadows or find life in its fecundity.
Carrie Skinner has wandered this landscape gathering bits and pieces of light and shadow then poured them into the poems in this collection. Here you will find deeply personal poems written from the heart that share the ups and downs of a life lived fully – the wonders and the horrors and everything in between. The book is divided into three sections; Love, Lust and Loss and if you look closely you may just discover a familiarity in the hills and valleys she paints with her pen. If you have ever loved, lusted or lost while living within the passion play of life these poems will resonate with your body, heart and soul. Read them slowly and let them bring you to the edge of their cliff where it is possible to either plummet or soar out into the wonders of a life lived fiercely and passionately.

Carrie Skinner is a poet, artist, writer and environmentalist holding a diploma in Wildlife/Forestry Conservation. Her love of nature permeates everything she does seeping into her writing and melding there in a very organic way. Her poems have been published in various anthologies and local periodicals and have received awards and honorable mentions from Iliad Press, Poetry Unlimited, Poetry Press and Prairie Dog Press among others. She has also illustrated a series of book covers for an independent writer of play-novels and has run a successful art business and herbal body care business but is now concentrating on her writing. Whether her subject matter is based in reality or fantasy she seeks to convey the message that we are all in this thing called life together. She believes we all have similar experiences in life and can learn and grow by sharing these experiences with each other.
She is married to her husband of more than forty years and has three grown children and seven grandchildren who all live nearby in a rural area in upstate New York by the beautiful and rugged shores of Lake Ontario and near the small tourist town of Fair Haven. When she isn’t writing or creating you can find her in her garden or wandering the woods with her dog, Raven or spending time with her 20 chickens. She is currently working on her second novel. This is her first published book of poetry and a second is waiting in the wings.
