Louisa May Alcott (1832 – 1888) was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet best known as the author of the novel Little Women (1868) and its sequels Little Men (1871) and Jo’s Boys (1886).
Raised in New England by her transcendentalist parents, she was a fascinating and influential writer and activist whose work both in-person and on paper helped to change the way Americans viewed one another as citizens of this great nation.
Alcott used many of her life experiences as inspiration for her writing. The transcendentalist philosophy and ideals of equality inspired her writing career and her dedication to noteworthy causes.
