Born in Cambridge, the author graduated in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Following a career taking him from Swedish translator to college principal, he now lives and writes by the North Norfolk coast, where skeins of noisy geese fill saltmarsh skies.
