This is the story of a lonely kid who develops a computer game, using what little of quantum physics that he has read, that renders game levels from maps of any format; the result is just a little too realistic. When he tries to combine this “World of Shawn” with a favorite game of his childhood, “World of One,” he soon finds Worlds colliding, to the detriment of his friends. Shawn must step up and rectify things, rescue the princess and save the World. The interaction and constant dialogue between the characters in this story, as well as the humor and action intertwined, have drawn comparison to that in such works as “The Lord of the Rings,” “Harry Potter,” and “Narnia,” so if a reader has an interest in any of those, as well as an interest in video games, either in the past or the present, it would be a safe bet that they would enjoy getting to know Shawn and his World! — “Your Hero” (Book Excerpt) I watch you from afar, You don’t know who I am, But I care for you, And would die to defend you. You are my Princess, And I am here to save you. I am Always, Your Hero — “The One” (Bonus Material) When no one else is around, you are the one who listens. When all is darkness, you are the one who turns on the lights. When the evil in this world seems to have overcome the good and all that was once true is utterly gone, You are the one who keeps me going just one more day. You are the one that holds back the tide. Son of the Siren
Sometimes love is a curse, a twisted, unnatural obsession.
Such is the dark magic of a siren’s song, the power of which half-siren Lirien witnesses for himself as he watches his mother sing his father, the King of Ardeth, into the sea. In a fruitless attempt to reverse his father’s fate, Lirien sings the siren song himself, not knowing its true power is seduction. Instead, he ensnares his stepmother, the Queen, with its hypnotic melody.
When Lirien refuses her desperate advances, she turns to forbidden magic to force her love on him. But wishing upon a havoc stone is an invitation to chaos. The queen’s own son and daughters, Lirien’s beloved siblings, are whisked away and transformed into animals. They flee the kingdom, and Lirien chases after them, his beautiful voice also gone.
Through elven mountains, fae forests, and siren waters, Lirien will stop at nothing to find and save his family. Threats come at him from all sides, but there are allies, too—Kitra, a shapeshifting fae fox who vows vengeance on the Queen for killing her brother, and Brandegil, an elf who can awaken the sacred sword Alibrandr to help break the spell on the children.
Together, they’ll bring the stars raining down from the heavens if that’s what it takes to save Lirien’s family, but there’s still the matter of breaking the spell on the Queen. And Lirien’s own deadly curse haunts him should he stray too long from the sea.

It All Began At This Creek
About It All Began At This Creek:
Good morning, readers of the Bountiful Zone Gazette. It was twenty years ago on this day that some of our older readers might recall. An entire town searched for a missing boy lost in the Forest of Poisonous Fruits. The boy was found forty-eight hours later at a creek without a single scratch on him. He was wearing only light clothing that would not have kept him warm during the cold night. Yet, something had kept him from freezing to death. The forest got its name from the poisonous fruits that grow there. But somehow, he knew which fruit was safe to eat. Then, the strangest part of all, the creek, was more than a kilometre from where he went missing. And the terrain was not easy for a child to cross, I know, because it was hard even for me.
He’s all grown up now, and I tracked him down to see what he was up to. His family has a drilling business in Fruit Orchard Town, and it’s safe to say that since his rescue, his life has been uneventful. The only drama in his life is his penchant for spicy fruit relish, which he and his brother make the most fiery concoction at home.
Yet, while reporting this “where is he now” article, I uncovered a more intriguing discovery: a rock. Yes, a rock, but not just any rock, a rock with its origin is unknown and unearthly. It may be a fragment of the theoretical meteorite that shattered the moon and gave us our ring around the Earth. However, this rock might bring about a solution to a crisis facing our world. And it all began at the creek where the young missing boy eventually was found.

Eyes of Fire by Oliver Eade
Eyes of Fire by Oliver Eade
A story of young love, set in Texas, with its challenges and uncertainties, against a backdrop of merging cultures and beliefs, whilst manipulation of the young lovers’ destinies by outside forces threatens more than just their futures because of who the girl really is.
Geeky Adam cannot believe his beautiful Mexican classmate, María, has dumped her hunk of a quarterback boyfriend for him. Her gift of an ancient bracelet, linked to the Golden Jaguar of the Sun, changes him, but love confounded by jealousy takes them on a perilous journey across different dimensions, shadowed by the mystical beast; from an Aztec temple where María, as a captive Tlaxcalan princess, Aríma, is saved from ritual sacrifice, to a drug gangsters’ Chiapas jungle hideout after she is kidnapped in retaliation for Adam saving a young African American boy from drug pushers in New York. Escaping from the gangsters, they seek refuge in a Mayan jungle village where María is fatally bitten by a venomous spider. She ends up, with Adam, in Xibalba, the Mayan afterlife ‘Place of Fear’. Confronting the Great Spider Goddess, to obtain venom with which the strange ‘Old Woman of the Hills’ promised to make antivenom to prevent the girl’s death in that other dimension called ‘Life’ is bad enough, but taking on the evil Lords of Xibalba without the Golden Jaguar, who cannot enter Xibalba, is terrifying beyond words. However, help is forthcoming from the legendary Mayan ‘Hero Twins’ who double up in Texas as the girl’s guardian angels, Art and Jeannie from Iowa, because of who María is. Return she must… and does… but the Xibalba Lords now want her for themselves. Can they cross over to the real world and change her destiny?
In Part 2, ‘The Merging’, Adam and María, now senior high school students, believe their troubles are behind them. How could Adam have guessed that his sister Chloe’s sixth sense, linking her in ‘real dreams’ with an ancient Anasazi Native girl, Earth Child, whose people are imperilled by a power-hungry usurper, Coyote Spirit, would transport him and his girlfriend back to 13th century Colorado, let alone become part of an ancient Puebloan prophecy? To fulfil the prophecy, Adam must confront Coyote Spirit. Does he have the strength to release the only power that can defeat his adversary: himself? To do this, the young Texan must also know his greatest enemy: his jealousy. This all but destroys him after Earth Child’s elder sister, Swimming Beaver, deceives them when she is seduced by Coyote Spirit and María is taken captive by the monster. However, once Adam realises the girl truly loves him, he and the Golden Jaguar merge, giving Adam supernatural strength. Overcoming Coyote Spirit becomes a doddle, but after returning to present-day Houston, he is still no closer to discovering why his Mexican girlfriend is so ‘special’ as Art, Jeannie and the ‘Old Woman of the Hills’ keep telling him.
In Part 3, ‘Revelation’, Adam, a university academic married to singer-songwriter María, with two children, is desperate to know what troubles his wife. It takes his clairvoyant sister, Chloe, now married to her childhood sweetheart, Lee, the boy rescued from New York drug pushers by Adam years back, to inform him that only Pepe, Adam’s 11-year-old son, can provide the answer. But first, Chloe must tell Pepe what happened when, as a 15-year-old madly in love the good-natured Lee, she persuaded her loveable Aunt Jac, a lawyer who looked after Chloe following her parents’ car crash deaths, to take her and Lee on a crazy search for Earth Child’s descendants out west because Chloe no longer had ‘real dream’ contact with her Anasazi friend from the past. Tricked into entering a strange tepee during a Native American show in New Mexico, Chloe found herself suspended above a Xibalba Ball Game court, captive of Coyote Spirit who used the girl as bait to lure the Golden Jaguar-come-Adam to rescue her. All seemed to be lost when the jaguar was overwhelmed and reduced to a transparent ghost of Adam as Coyote Spirit took over Adam’s body and returned to the real world to claim María for himself. Whether or not it was the true Adam or Coyote Spirit who made love to María when Pepe was conceived only becomes apparent later, but the reason for María’s unhappiness is now clear. The Hero Twins of Xibalba, Art and Jeannie in Texas, and Pepe’s sixth sense, together with that of the boy’s Aunt Chloe, finally establish who his true father is, and help to rescue Earth Child from Xibalba by defying the Xibalba Death Lords, and in doing so solve the mystery of who María really is.

The Quarry Bank Runaways: Revised Edition (Quarry Bank Tales) by G J Griffiths
About The Quarry Bank Runaways: Revised Edition (Quarry Bank Tales) by G J Griffiths:
“Child apprentices in very many cotton mills continued to be treated like slaves well after the Slave Trade Acts of the 19th century.” “Pauper child apprentices from workhouses were not even paid after working 12 hour days and for 5 or 6 days a week, mill owners counted the profit!” In the early 19th century, when it was the policy of many of the poorhouses and workhouses to deter paupers from applying by making the conditions inside harsh and unpleasant, two boys set out on a journey to Hackney Workhouse in London. Their starting point was in the pleasant Cheshire countryside, where they were apprenticed to the cotton mill built by Samuel Greg in 1784. Children as young as 9 would be employed there, as scavengers, piecers, mule doffers or can tenters. These jobs could be just as unpleasant and difficult for a poor child as those we may have heard of, such as chimney sweeps and match girls. Quarry Bank Mill was some 200 miles north of London and the boys had to sneak out unnoticed and then attempt to walk all the way. It was likely that these enterprising travellers took advantage of the drovers’ roads and the newly developed “motorways” of the times – the canals. Perhaps they were lucky enough some days to hitch a lift; their general direction of travel taking them to Beartown, the Potteries, Dunstable Downs and eventually to London. Whatever challenges they encountered along the way archive evidence shows that they made it. Runaway apprentices had become a problem for society during the years of the Industrial Revolution – so what had prompted Thomas and Joseph to do such a hazardous thing? What happened to them on their long journey? Did they receive any help? Or were they chased relentlessly wherever they ran, since what they were doing was illegal in the eyes of the authorities? This is the story of their adventure and it concludes with the events in the Middlesex courthouse, known then as the Old Sessions.
