“O, I forbid ye, maidens a’ that wear gold in their hair, to come or go by Carterhaugh, for young Tamlane is there.”
It was not Robert Burns’s elfin knight who greeted Amarantha on her arrival in Cornwall, but the wild rector, Tamlane Adair. The rumors of his nighttime rides across the moor only heightened his mystery. Listening to his silken voice she could almost forget the anguish that had driven her from London and the Jacobite rebellion that had cost her so much. In his eyes, Amarantha could see both the dangers of the Cornish coast but also a passionate promise.
