It then shows how the same answer is preserved in Igbo customary law through nwa di ana and nwa ime mkpuke, and how the rabbis formalized it in the Talmud’s ruling in Kiddushin 68b and Yevamot 45b. The conclusion is the same in every tradition: the child of the Israelite mother is your son — belonging to her people, counted among her family, regardless of who the father is or whether the marriage was ever recognized.
