The Cold War is underway, and a worn-out American viral researcher at Fort Detrick, Maryland gets a new project. Keen to do anything that will get him a much-needed break to see his family, he agrees with his new partner from the long defunct Unit 731, who wants to use the Spanish Flu virus as a weapon. The hope is to stop the enemy from harming the citizens of the United States and to bring peace.
The overseer of this project, a megalomaniac colonel, tries to procure a sample. A mishap in the process sets a chain reaction of death and destruction that cannot be ignored. Setting in motion a swathe of cover-ups and pushing the boundaries of how far people can go in achieving victory. However, the U.S. military will find out that the virus—and the truth—cannot be contained.
