She is the author of The Casita Series, a psychological suspense saga set in northern New Mexico and built around the women who carry stories no one else will hold.
The K and the B come from her own name. K is for the woman who wrote this book. B is for Burk, her maiden name, carried as a middle name across three generations of women in her family. Her daughter carries it. Her granddaughter Vera carries it. The matrilineal weight of names, and the things women inherit without being asked, is something she writes about over and over again.
She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the light, the silence, and the layered Spanish, Indigenous, and Hispano histories of the region inform nearly everything she puts on the page. She and her husband, Greg, make their home there, and she is a fiercely proud grandmother.
