This short story is Book One of Four in the first-contact science fiction series THE SPIRIT GUILD.
As an unknown spaceship approaches Earth from the far side of the sun, aliens hiding on Earth stage a terrifying attack on a U.S. Army detachment. All reports of the attack are immediately silenced.
The only survivors are Rik and Vik, who are determined to stop the creatures even if that means losing their military careers. All they can do now is to follow faint clues to an ancient, mysterious group who might – or might not – be able to help them.

Author Bio:
Like many who end up being writers, I’ve worked at many different jobs: riding instructor, horse trainer, computer programmer, and medical transcriptionist.
I began my writing career in the early 1980s with articles for several national and regional horse magazines. I sold my first novel, the historical fantasy *Lady of Fire,* to Dorchester Publishing in 1995. That was the start of the ten-volume *Celtic Journeys* series, each of which is an historical fantasy set in ancient Ireland and tells a complete story.
Today I am a full-time novelist, ghostwriter, and copy editor, working mainly in science fiction, historical fantasy, urban fantasy, and several types of romance. I never use artificial intelligence (AI) software of any kind when creating my books. You can find me speaking on panels and holding workshops at writers’ events and conventions.
