About Journal of the Alleda:

Rather than feed you some AI ‘enhanced’ tosh here are some genuine 5* reviews of the book…

In the broad world of sailing few sailors ever venture to sea and fewer of these ever complete a circumnavigation of the world, of which few write about their voyage. Here is one such voyage conducted by a ‘weekend sailor’ in an ageing catamaran, quite modestly. The writing is engaging without being dramatic as the author lets the story speak for itself. In the end I found it a very enjoyable read, even the second time around. This is a sailing yarn with many of the elements that made Hiscock, Pardy and Smeeton so well regarded. Readable to both kinds of people, those that sail and those that don’t. Australia Reader

Solo circumnavigation with your standard British humor. One of the better cruising books on the market. Totally relatable in many respects. USA Reader

A day sailor gone AWOL on a truly remarkable scale. I marvelled at Philip’s audacity. He doesn’t dwell on the nautical or technical challenges but they must have been significant and if I had one criticism, I would like to have know more. The tale of adventure and travelling to cultures and places you or I can only dream of, is inspiring and thought provoking. UK reader

Enjoyed this book very much. Quite different to most of the sailing books I’ve read. A very frank story told with determination to complete an incredible journey. USA reader

Author Bio:

Philip lives in Norfolk with his partner. He has worked as an engineer, a college lecturer and an occasional writer for what was at the time the UK’s biggest selling boating magazine. Deciding he’d had enough of being an employee he sailed (single handed) an elderly and ‘unsuitable’ catamaran around the world. He has written three books and a fourth is due to be published in April 2026.
