Insidiously Disquieting by Peter Raposo

Mizael Fairall is a successful author whose life has been shadowed by a horrifying event. At the age of six, he was abducted, held captive for four days, and subjected to abuse before managing to escape. His captor committed suicide before being arrested, robbing him of both justice and answers.
Years later, he has built a writing career but lives with unhealed wounds. His world begins to crack when he encounters a face from his past. That encounter pulls him back to the very place where he was once kidnapped and it awakens a chilling suspicion: what if his abductor was never acting alone?
Before that encounter, he finds himself at a disturbing party in Los Angeles. Behind the glamour, he witnesses occult-style rituals, guests drinking blood, and whispered talk of a hidden island where children are abused and murdered. These rumours resonate with a fragment from his childhood trauma—his kidnapper once spoke of being taken to an island by “others.”
Determined to uncover the truth, he begins investigating. His search takes him across multiple countries, where he discovers disturbing links between powerful figures, clandestine ceremonies, and an underground network designed to protect its own at all costs.
But his pursuit of truth does not go unnoticed. A black Mercedes Benz appears again and again, tailing him across five nations.
As the investigation deepens, he is forced to confront not only the monstrous conspiracy around him but also the scars left by his own past.
The novel blends horror, conspiracy, and romance, pulling readers into a story where trauma collides with desire, and where truth is far more dangerous than fiction.

Author Bio:

Born in London to Portuguese parents, Peter Raposo was only two-years old when his parents decided to return home, but in 1991 he finally returned to London. He wrote his first story at the age of 6, followed by many short stories throughout the years, but then he quit writing for a long time before resuming in 2006. His work has appeared in magazines and bulletins, and his first book dUst, a classic dystopian science-fiction novel, came out in 2021, followed shortly afterwards by The Illusion of Movement, a novel that he wrote while going through a divorce and a severe case of depression. Coventry is now his permanent home, and when he’s not writing or reading you’re more likely to find him playing video games.
