Blue Sniffer by Lawrence

About Blue Sniffer by Lawrence:

Bagley Carter, a talented photographer, has synaesthesia. It makes him smell colours. He is desperate to escape drab brown Sleighton, a dying English town. Bagley needs tantalising turquoise. He idealises the lush blue South Pacific and is lured there by Krista Hecht – a powerful, seductive heiress with a dark past.

Bagley arrives and thinks he has found paradise. But Krista draws him into her covert world of unsettling truths, tangled loyalties, scientific ambition and eco-politics. As desire mixes with danger, Bagley’s illusions fade. Beauty hides crime. Pollution poses as perfection.

Tangled in Krista’s web, Bagley must choose whether to stay and help protect the most beautiful place, on Earth. Britain may be breaking, but is paradise the right place to be?

Author Bio:

A famous publisher plagiarised Lawrence’s first novel, gave it to a famous comedian who needed his break as an author. The book became a best seller. Did Lawrence litigate or fight? No. He considered John Lennon’s words: “Life’s what happen to you while you’re busy making other plans”. Lawrence had other things to do in any case, so became successful in business, especially high profile PR.

He was elected into the Chartered Institute of Public Relations due to successfully improving reputations of businesses in trouble, but it was not enough for Lawrence. He left Britain, travelled, started a family, but Salman Rushdie’s comments nagged Lawrence. “How do write a novel?”. Rushdie was asked in a TV interview. He replied “I just reimagine the truth”.

So it was for Lawrence. He had plenty of truth. Blue Sniffer came to mind. Mixing truth with science had always inspired him. As a child, he looked beyond what he saw and listened beyond sound. He knew there was more, but not sure what. Doing newspaper deliveries before school, he’d often stop, peruse the words of journalists and questioned why there were so many versions of single events, whatever the truth was.

School was dull, but chemistry was fun. It made maths magical for Lawrence. Tantalising turquoise of burning copper was his favourite. Lawrence’s first job was in a laboratory, testing insecticides on beetles, but seeing agony under a microscope was no fun. He even tested Greyhound urine for amphetamines at the local racing stadium. It was all science to Lawrence. Then, working at a college, he learnt photography and discovered psychedelic science. A few LSD trips, doing light shows for famous bands, made Lawrence see colours that science has no names for.

Amidst it all there was university too and girls, very beautiful girls. Lawrence wanted to photograph them, be with them, often at the same time. Much happened from then on. Life was exotic and erotic. Blue Sniffer the novel exemplifies it all, yet truth prevails.

Lawrence’s next novel will be called Baby Blue Sniffer.
