About Agnete and The Merman: Traditional Mermaid Folk Stories Collection:
Agnete and The Merman is about a very famous legend/myth/ballad/folk tale, from Scandinavian countries, especially Denmark and Sweden. In some English language versions, the main character is called ‘Agnes.’
There is no definitive version or single author of a legend/myth/folktale, so there are quite a few variations of it. I did a lot of research for it, and took everyone else’s versions, even very old things, into account.
There is a stunning modern underwater bronze sculpture about Agnete and the Merman, in Copenhagen, that can be seen from above, through the water.
A sad, unwanted young woman, meets a lovely, handsome merman, who tells her that he has been in love with her for a long time, and asks her to marry him…
This must be underwater love…
The story of a very famous, sad, powerful, deep, wonderful scandinavian legend.
This short story can be read by anyone, but not younger children. (It’s completely clean though.)
All our short stories are originals. This is book 5 in our Traditional Mermaid Folk Stories Collection.
Excerpt: “And the beautiful merman took her down, down, a long, long way, through the slow, deep, silent, misty water. And she left the air that she had breathed, and her old life, and the whole world, behind. As they glided through the water, he sang to her the sweetest, most melancholy siren lullaby, and she began to forget, about absolutely, everything.”
