This is the third story in the series, County Durham Quad, and it introduces a new character, Nick Seabrooke. It is not necessary to have read the previous two books. Past events are referred to, but some background detail is provided to aid new readers.
The quad are Mike, Ross, Raith and Phil, four gay men who live in County Durham, north-east England. They solve crimes, are victims of crimes and, sometimes, they commit crimes.
The police suspect Raith of faking a painting. So do money launderers who sink their profits into art. Mike, Ross and Phil must prove Raith’s innocence. They’re hampered by their certainty that a member of the investigating fraud squad is corrupt. The senior investigating officer is Detective Sergeant Nick Seabrooke. He knows he is asexual, but is he aromantic too? As Raith’s lovers struggle to keep Raith safe and find the fraudster, the sergeant struggles to understand why the quad, and especially Mike, are often in his thoughts.
This isn’t a high-flame story. There is one brief, on-page description of penetrative sex. The focus is on the commitment and care that characterise the men’s relationships, and on how they work together when one of them is under threat.
There are five books in the County Durham Quad series. I hope that readers will enjoy Ace in the Picture, and read the others! It s published by Rowanvale Books and normally retails at $2. 45

I’m Jude Tresswell, the author of the five novels in the County Durham Quad series and one short story. I live with my husband in south-east England but, like my quad, I’m a northerner, and I do miss the sights and sounds of northern England.
Like Nick Seabrooke, the ace in Book 3, Ace in the Picture, I identify as asexual, and I’ve used the colours of the ace flag on the book’s cover. My covers always feature silhouettes; I have very little idea what any of the characters look like. I find them really hard to visualise. If you ‘see’ them after reading, please feel you can drop me a note on my blog or tell me via Goodreads or Amazon. A big thank you for reading and downloading – Jude.
