About Twisted Tales – Short Stories Anthology 1: The Wrong Spirit — The Wormhole and Me — My Giant: A Love Story — My Brother’s Entity — My Time Travelling … Mind (Twisted Tale – Short Story Book 11) by C. A. Hewitson:
The Wrong Spirit
It’s a mother’s worst nightmare: from birth, there was no bond with my daughter, Amelia.
As soon as she was old enough to speak, I discovered why: she insisted I was not her mother.
The doctor said it was classic autism, her disinterest with human connection. But I believed we had a problem far more sinister than that: the only thing Amelia was connected to was an eerie, hand-knitted doll, ‘Mandy,’ that we acquired by mistake after Amelia’s birth.
That doll, Amelia’s obsession, was the bane of our lives. But it was also the only clue we had to understanding a mix-up so unreal that no one else would ever believe it.
The Wormhole and Me
Ronan is an astronaut through and through: everything else in his life comes second. So when he is offered the first ever solo mission to Mars aboard Varlet 6 – even though his wife Sonia is pregnant with their second child – the choice is a no-brainer.
But something happens out there, in the depths of space, and when Ronan returns home after a successful mission, he discovers the mysterious film of light he travelled through in space was in fact a wormhole – seventeen years have passed since his departure from Earth, even though he has only been gone eight months.
Can Ronan claw himself back into a family that left him behind seventeen years ago?
My Giant: A Love Story
Giants live among us. But not overtly: they live hidden in the shadows of society.
I know, because I’m in love with one.
I first heard the gentle voice of Penelope Cotton on the other end of a telemarketing call, and from that day forth, I was smitten. Her reluctance to meet only made me curiouser.
But I was not prepared for what I saw in the hay fields of her farm the night we first met, and I’ll admit I was a coward and almost blew my chances.
Now don’t get me wrong: Penelope may be a giant, but she is beautiful, inside and out. And I soon discovered love knew no bounds.
But could I convince Penny to leave not only her family, but the safety of her secret, cocooned life to be with me? And was the world ready to accept Penny’s gigantism so that we could have our happily-ever-after?
My Brother’s Entity
Mandel and Oscar are brothers, but that’s where the similarity ends.
Mandel is recklessly confident, and Oscar’s as shy as a kitten.
Even when Mandel dies unexpectedly, Oscar cannot find the courage to stand up and say a few words for his eulogy, even though there was plenty he wanted to say about the big brother he idolised.
But that’s when Oscar first hears the voice.
‘Get up there and say something about me!’ Mandel growls in his ear at the funeral. But when Oscar turns his head, Mandel’s nowhere to be seen.
He’s dead, Oscar reminds himself. Corpses can’t talk.
Or can they?
