The Revenge of a Gandhi’s follower is the first Novel in the Leader of millions series by Bibhuti Senapati & Durgesh Nandini Das is an inspiring as well as a romantic novel that narrates fictional life history of a leader, who would be the most popular Prime Minister, who changed thoughts of the nation, who changed the entire scenario of the country in the world arena. Everything he had done for a reason, the reason was love, it was his revenge from the system. Each chapter of the book narrates a different aspect of the protagonists’ life and his contribution to the society.
The story is in first person narration, narrated by Mr Rakesh (childhood friend of the Prime Minister) and his life, concerning both personal and professional lives.
In the first few chapters, the narrator, Rakesh, gives a detailed description about Vijay’s and Priya’s friendship and their love story, Vijay’s carefree approach to life and his influential life lessons and many more things. Those chapters also introduce Vijay’s parents, Mr Alok and Mrs Shanti, who are very caring and loving, not only towards their son but also towards his friends. They had always been a strong support system for their son and his decisions.
The narrator initially focuses on how Vijay and he became friends that ultimately made them friends forever within a few months of their friendship. Their friendship started from childhood and lasted till date. The narrator had been the sole witness of Vijay’s growth, both personal and professional. The chapters also narrate Vijay and Priya’s friendship which tied them in an unbreakable bond of friendship, love and finally life partners. As they grew up physically and mentally, their love also blossomed. In their adolescent stage, they developed a sensuous love and always longed to be close to each other. Even their friends, the narrator, Ishita and Rashmi, gave them ample chance to spend time together as they went for picnics and outings. The best time was their three days trip to Vijay’s farm-house where they actually realized their deep love for each other. But their happiness was short-lived as in a car accident Priya’s parent died that turned out to be great turning point in Priya’s life.
After the death of Priya’s parents, she was left all shattered and it was Vijay who stood beside her as a strong pillar and took her responsibility.
In the next few chapters, the narrator describes a more responsible and matured Vijay. It was basically possible because of Vijay’s parents’ support. His parents whole-heartedly welcomed Priya after her parents’ demise, without thinking about the society and neighborhood. They made all the efforts to normalize Priya and enable her to overcome her adversities. For example, they arranged house-party, get-together with friends, fulfilling her wishes and many more things.
Vijay and Priya entered graduation together and they turned out to be more serious and focused. In the course of time, they revived their lost love and used to spend time together. The narrator also developed a liking for Rashmi but she was always busy vowing Vijay, although she knew that nothing was going to turn out of it. They completed their graduation. Priya topped and others scored well including Vijay. Finally, they pursued their dreams and entered their next stage of life. Ishita opted for journalism, Rakesh went for business stories although he had a passion for writing and Rashmi went for modeling.
On the other hand, though Vijay had higher dreams but was not sure about it. He had to face a lot of rejection in different job sectors but Priya was always beside him. A great turning point came in his life when he along with Priya and his parents, went to Delhi for a bank interview and was arrested by the police while spending some quality time with Priya. They were beaten and tortured. Priya was humiliated and Vijay’s father was forced to pay a huge sum to release them. This incident jolted Vijay’s mind and returning home, he decided to change the system by entering into it and politics was the only way. Now, it was the time to focus on each other’s dream. Priya, with persuasion, decided to be an IAS officer and Vijay decided to be a politician. But prior to this he wanted to travel all around the country and testify the system. On the other hand, his parents had something else in store for him. So, Vijay and Priya got married and pursued their dreams.
In the subsequent chapters, the narrator narrates Vijay’s long-term dream turning into reality and their friends’ reunion for helping each other; and finally Vijay as a well-known personality and a trend setter.
New government came in power which lighted a hope for change. On his return, Vijay decided to set up a school which would be solely based on students’ interests. Priya’s parental property, i.e.; the house and money, turned out to be the best suited assets for setting up the school. The teachers would be Mr Alok as Agriculture teacher, Ishita as Journalism mentor, Priya as History teacher, Ishita’s father as Cooking teacher and the narrator as Vocabulary teacher. On the first day of school, Vijay’s welcome speech was too encouraging for students as well as others.
Time eloped. In the meantime, Priya qualified IAS exams and went for training. Also, the narrator’s first book was published that got a good response. Their school turned out to be a model school which brought huge name and fame to Vijay. The school imparted education free of cost. Vijay’s popularity increased among the masses and then he decided to contest the election.
One day he got an invitation from the Prime Minister and he was asked to join his party, owing to his popularity. He grabbed this opportunity immediately and won the election without any difficulty. And he was into the system to make it upside down with his revolutionary mind. He was offered the Human Resource Development Ministry with a new set of officials. He was given a free hand in decision-making in the concerned field and ultimately he thought of revolutionizing the entire education system by inculcating modern techniques and tools like education channels, websites, advanced libraries, sports subjects, agriculture science, well-built infrastructure etc. These ideas and concepts got full support from his ministry as well as the Prime Minister. Vijay was prospering and he was happy to see the change.
Within all these, the narrator and Ishita confessed their love for each other and Priya joined her duty as an IAS officer. Now, setting up of libraries and stadiums at every corner of the country was another big concern that needed a lot of finance and man-power. As Priya offered a helping hand, Vijay was a bit reluctant this time to accept her help. While others; narrator, Ishita and Rashmi stepped forward to help him. But he was still running short with money, although everyone gave all their savings including the Prime Minister. The setting up of libraries and stadiums was slowly turning out to be a great challenge for Vijay. Then with the help of Ishita and media, he urged the people to donate finance for stadiums, books, both old and new, so that the libraries would be set up within the stipulated time period. And yes, within a year, his dream of libraries and stadiums flourished successfully with the help of everyone.
Vijay successfully completed his term as HRD minister and when he was asked to continue as the same, he opted for Home Ministry. Both Vijay and Priya performed their duties sincerely and Vijay started a revolutionary wave against corruption, especially in the Police Department. Officer Rana and the lady constable, who once dishonored Priya at Delhi Police Station, were suspended in charge of corruption. Years eloped. Both had kids, a girl named Roma, after Vijay’s late sister and a boy named Rakesh, after the narrator. Also, the narrator, Rakesh and Ishita got married. The life was easy-going. The ruling party lost its power in the next election and Vijay was now in the opposition side. But the new government in power also had a lot of respect for Vijay and his visions.
Vijay entered into his next phase of life when he became the Chief Minister with the support of the former Prime Minister. His tenure as the Chief Minister was a grand success. After five years, it was time for the parliamentary election and the former Prime Minister suggested Vijay’s name as the candidate for being the next Prime Minister of revolutionary India; much to the disapproval of the other members of the party….
