Mayu was of Japanese descent. From a tender age she’d been raised by her father, and trained in the martial arts. Later as a government agent she’d gone on to excel. While standing in the apartment of her latest suspect, she ruminated over her problems.
Years had passed with the trail going cold. Her grumpy new partner Wallace was getting on her nerves—it wasn’t easy being an MTF agent.
She struggled against the frustration, aware their alien enemies were growing stronger by the day.
Somewhere in the world there had to be something to turn the relentless tide—anything to give humanity a chance.
Her suspect’s name was Ella, and there was something odd about her. The woman appeared to be nervous, and was definitely hiding something.
After calling up from the lobby, a young man in his twenties knocked at the door, and was allowed to enter.
Mayu regarded him before quickly relaxing again. Though not unattractive, and solidly built, he had an open face, and appeared to be no threat.
For a moment she saw an uncharacteristic alertness in his eye. It was the look of an animal sizing up its prey. An instant later, the half formed impression was gone.
After a heated conversation in the stifling summer heat, a decision was made. To avoid an unpleasant confrontation, they’d return to base together.
But what do the agents really want with Ella, and why do they believe she’s so important?
Will the aliens succeed in their plan to conquer the Earth? Or is there something about the two suspects that might alter the outcome?
Most of my lunch hours were spent in the library as a youth. I think I must have read every piece of Sci-Fi available.
If it wasn’t for the e-book revolution I’d certainly be doing something else, but writing would always be my first choice.
There’s just something fulfilling about creating other worlds where people can lose themselves for a while.
