In “Cultivating a Gospel Shaped Attitude,” Dr. Joseph Buchanan draws on over 20 years of experience as a Pastor and Bible teacher to explore the fundamental role the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-11) play in developing a Christ-like character. This book demonstrates that Jesus intended for the Beatitudes to be a vital part of the discipleship process by informing our understanding of the Gospel and the Christian life. By carefully cultivating these gospel shaped attitudes in their lives, believers can experience a radical transformation in their relationship with God, other believers and the world around them. This book can help move every believer to a deeper understanding of the spiritual life and the fundamental role attitude change plays in gospel transformation.

During a sabbatical from the ministry several years ago I began a personal Bible study of the Beatitudes. As I studied this amazing passage of Scripture it began to dawn on me that this passage is far more important for spiritual formation than I had every given it credit. The eight attitudes found in this passage are essential for cultivating Christian character and experiencing genuine gospel transformation. The more I studied and learned, the more it became apparent to me that I needed to share this teaching with a larger audience. Thus was born the idea for “Cultivating a Gospel-Shaped Attitude: Understanding and Living the Beatitudes.”
